We all measure successes by unique benchmarks that are affected by those set by our parents, mentors, teachers, friends, etc. In the last 6 months, I have undertaken many new projects, and my benchmark lately has been the simplest measure of all: completion. Since November 1st I have:
- Participated in NaNoWriMo for the first time, and successfully reached 50,000 words (November)
- Rediscovered, selected, and polished poetry for an electronic collection (early January)
- Finished the draft of my NaNoWriMo novel (February)
- Started this blog (February)
- Revised my first novel many times until it was fit for the eyes of first readers (Feb-March)
- Participated in, and, with this post, successfully completed BlogFlash2013!
I forgot about Nano! What a lovely list os successes. Thanks for the much needed reminder. Nice to have shared posts on blog flash. Xx
ReplyDeleteNaNo does seem like it was so long ago... I think frequently we forget to take stock of our successes, constantly seeking the next one instead. It's nice (and satisfying!) to take a step back and remember :-)
DeleteGreat 'meeting' you through this experience!
Congrats for all the stuff you feel successful about! Success, I think, is very subjective, different things for different people.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mervi – very true about success being a relative and subjective term.
DeleteWow, you have been busy! Many congratulations on all your achievements, Aria.
ReplyDeleteIt's been great to meet you! :-)
Thanks, Carlie! It's been wonderful 'meeting' you as well! :-)
DeleteGreat start to the year. Congratulations!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Joy!
DeleteWow Girlfriend, you've been a busy bee! Good for you on NaNo; I felt successful getting 4K words; next time I'll be prepared for the nightmare. It was nice to meet you, and I'm following your blog to keep up with you. Much success Aria!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Donna! I've been so focused on what I still have to do – it's nice to take a moment to remember what I've already done. I think NaNo's "Camp" programs now let you set your own word count goals – maybe that'll be less of a nightmare for you? :-)
DeleteIt's been great getting to 'meet' you as well, and I'm flattered that you'll be following my blog. I'm looking forward to hearing how that contest goes for you, and continuing to read the posts from your new challenge!!
Congrats on your many firsts! Hope many more are to come :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Amanda :-) & Cheers
